 This egg was a gift of Tsar Alexander III to Tsarina Maria Feodorovna on Easter of 1892. It originally contained a clockwork ivory elephant surprise, which is now missing. The silver base of three cherubs is also missing.

While widely known for his Imperial eggs, Fabergé made some other large eggs for few select private clients such as the Duchess of Marlborough, the Nobels, the Rothschilds, and the Yusupovs.  This egg is the fifth in a series of seven made for industrialist Alexander Kelch.
